Scientists at the National Research Centre on Camels (NRCC) in Bikaner have recently claimed that camel tears have amazing medicinal properties. They have a high anti-inflammatory capacity.
Even antibodies obtained from camel tears can be used to fight snake venom.
The NRCC study says that camel tears have the ability to neutralize the venom of 26 snakes. If this research is fruitful, it could bring about a revolutionary change in the treatment of snakebites. Experts also believe that this could improve the quality of life of camel farmers.
According to the report, NRCC researchers have recently conducted several experiments on camels. One of them is the introduction of a vaccine made from boa snake venom into the camel's body.
In that experiment, it was found that the antibodies obtained from camel tears and serum are working great in reducing the effectiveness of snake venom. Most importantly, the effect of bleeding and blood clotting due to snake bites is also significantly reduced due to the application of those antibodies.
Snake bite antidote or 'antivenom' is mainly made from horse immunoglobulin. The cost of producing that immunoglobulin is as high as it is complicated to collect.
However, NRCC scientists claim that the cost of producing the antidote obtained from camels is low. Again, collecting it is also comparatively less complicated. The experts also believe that the risk of allergies is low if camel antibodies are introduced into the human body.
