Ingredients (Serves 2)
250g ground beef
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 medium onion
10g butter
A pinch of salt
1 beaten egg
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
Condiments
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon allspice powder
A pinch of coarsely ground black pepper
Sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon red wine
1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
50ml water
10g butter
1/2 teaspoon flour
Garnish
1 turnip
1 turnip greens
Salt A little
[Preparation]
Finely chop the onion. Add butter to a frying pan over medium heat. Once it melts, add the onion and salt. Fry until soft, then remove to a tray and let cool.
[Directions]
1. Place the ground meat and salt in a bowl and mix thoroughly with your hands until sticky.
Refrigerate the ground meat and beaten eggs until ready to use.
2. Add the beaten eggs and seasoning ingredients and mix until thickened. Add the breadcrumbs and mix, then add the sautéed onion and quickly mix with your hands.
Mix thoroughly with your fingertips. The ground meat will absorb the moisture from the egg and form into a ball.
3. Divide the mixture into two equal parts, press out the air, and roll into an oval shape, making a depression in the center. Lightly coat with flour (not included).
Coating with flour will help prevent the meat juices from leaking out and prevent the shape from collapsing.
4. Arrange (3), the turnip, and the turnip greens in a frying pan and heat over medium heat. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until golden brown, then flip the hamburger steaks and turnips over. Cover and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the centre of the hamburger steak is cooked through.
5. Sprinkle a little salt on the turnips in (4) and remove them from the frying pan. Add the ingredients for the sauce and heat over medium heat, stirring and simmering.
6. Return the hamburger steaks to (5), coat them with the sauce, and serve on a plate, garnish with the turnips and turnip greens.
