The conflict that has been going on in Bangladeshi politics since the independence of Pakistan until today is the conflict between the military power of Western urban ideology and the ancient natural ethnic mentality. Although it can be viewed through various lenses, including religion, anti-India, socialism versus capitalism, in my opinion the deepest conflict is the conflict between the power of Western urban mentality and the Bengali ethnic mentality.
What is the way to keep people together, orderly, peaceful and productive in a society? Abandoning nationalism and culture for global profit like capitalism? Or socialism, which abandons nationalism and culture for the ideal of equitable distribution of wealth? In the last century, we have seen the extreme development of both, and one has fallen and the other is on the verge of falling.
Why this fall? From the perspective of psychology, the reason for this failure is the inability of philosophical sense and a subtle sense of life. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his government have understood very well that the main reason for the collapse of the highly developed Soviet socialism is the abandonment of nationalism and culture in the name of socialism in the Soviet countries. Putin and his government are therefore trying to bring back the nationalism and culture of ancient Russia so that the philosophical capacity of the people and the practice of a refined sense of life can be restored.
After World War II, the countries of America and Europe abandoned nationalism and ancient culture and chose neo-liberalism, which is actually culturelessness. America's slave states in Asia, such as Japan and Korea, also followed the same path. As a result, despite economic progress, society continued to collapse in decline. Faced with the collapse of capitalism, attempts have begun in our country to eradicate nationalism and ancient culture. This must be resisted at any cost.
Japanese director Akira Kurosawa has a wonderful film about the conflict between the military mentality of urban ideals and the ancient natural ethnic mentality called Dersu Uzala. The film was released in 1975 and the language is Russian.
Dersu Uzala
The film Dersu Uzala revolves around the life of Russian army captain Vladimir Arseniev and his companion Darsu Uzala during an exploratory expedition. The film sheds light on the conflict between human relations with nature, ancient natural life, and modern civilization.
In 1902, a group led by Russian army captain Vladimir Arseniev set out on an exploratory expedition to map remote areas of Siberia. During this expedition, they found a strange footprint that made them think. That's when they met Darsu Uzala, an elderly local hunter and guide.
Darsu at first seems like an ordinary, old man to the members of Arseniev's team. Many people despise him and make fun of him. They see him as an "old fool" and a man who exaggerates unnecessarily. However, Captain Arseniev realizes from the first meeting that Darsu is a special and experienced person, who has a deep knowledge of nature and lives in harmony with its needs.
After Darsu joins the team, he quickly proves his extraordinary natural knowledge and skills. He can predict changes in the environment by the direction of the wind, the sound of leaves, and the footprints of animals. This skill is proven when one day the team members are trapped in the harsh winter conditions and Darsu quickly builds a temporary shelter to protect them from the cold.
When the team members begin to see Darsu's natural knowledge and skills, their perspective changes. Those who previously mocked him now begin to see him as a serious person. They realize that Darsu is not just a hunter, he has the ability to deeply unite with nature and that every moment of his life is dependent on the laws of nature.
During the days of the expedition, a deep friendship develops between Darsu and Captain Arseniev. Darsu teaches Arseniev how to be in tune with nature and understand its language. He teaches him that man's relationship with nature is not only based on hunting and gathering, but that there is also a deep humanity and philosophy in being one with nature.
Darsu's philosophy of life was to be in complete harmony with nature. He believed that every being in nature is a part of life and should be respected. This view also deeply affected Arseniev, and he began to feel a deep respect and compassion for Darsu.
After the expedition, Captain Arseniev and his team returned to the city. Arseniev invited Darsu to stay with him. Although Darsu initially refused, he eventually came to the city at Arseniev's request. Upon arriving in the city, Darsu could not adapt to city life; he was very uncomfortable with the noise, mechanization, and isolation from nature.
During Darsu's stay in the city, Captain Arseniev presented Darsu with a new rifle as a token of his gratitude. Darsu needed a new rifle for hunting as his old one had broken. While presenting this rifle, Captain Arseniev showed deep respect and affection for Darsu and it became a special memory for Darsu.
Darsu became tired of the mechanical and artificial life in the city and decided to return to his beloved natural environment. Arseniev bid him farewell and gave him money and a rifle for his safe journey.
