Once Hazrat Musa (AS) was passing by a road. He saw a very poor man sitting with his body buried in the sand. He had no clothes on, he had covered his body with sand out of shame.
The man saw Hazrat Musa (AS) and cried out, “O Prophet of Allah! Pray for me. May Allah give me at least a little sustenance to live on. I am no longer able to live due to poverty.”
Hazrat Musa (AS) felt pity for the poor man. He prayed to Allah for the man’s well-being and left. Later, the prayer of the Prophet of Allah was also accepted.
After a few days, Musa (AS) was returning along that road. He saw a huge crowd on the road. Many people were gathered. He asked, “What happened here? Why is there so much crowd?”
The people said, “A few days ago, the beggar who was lying under the sand suddenly got some wealth. After getting the money, he drank alcohol and got drunk. Then, while getting drunk, he got into a fight and killed a person. Now, preparations are underway to execute him for ‘Qisas’ or death.”
Hazrat Musa (AS) acknowledged the wisdom of Allah and sought forgiveness for his mistake.
Referring to the incident, Allama Sheikh Saadi (RA) used some wonderful similes and proverbs:
1. If the poor cat had wings, it would have wiped out all the sparrows from the world.” (i.e., the weak become tyrants when they gain strength).
2. Plato said: “It is better for an ant not to have wings. Because if it grows wings, it will fly and bring about its own destruction.”
3. Allah says in the Holy Quran: “If Allah had provided abundant sustenance for all His servants, they would have spread mischief on earth.” (Surah Ash-Shura: 27)
4. The father has a lot of honey, but he does not let his son who has a fever eat it. Because he knows that although honey is sweet, it is harmful to a fever patient (if the body temperature is high).
Therefore, you have not been given some things, He knows your good and bad more than you.
