Chinese woman sparks controversy after getting pregnant at 62

A 62-year-old woman in China's Jilin province has sparked nationwide controversy after becoming pregnant through in vitro fertilization (IVF). She is currently six months pregnant.

Due to the risks associated with her age, she has to undergo more physical examinations than other pregnant women. For advanced treatment, she has to travel to major hospitals in Changchun, the capital of Jilin, about 170 kilometers from her hometown of Songyuan. Doctors have said that pregnancy at such an advanced age is very risky for both mother and child, and there is no safe option other than surgery or a cesarean section.
