There were also women samurai.

 


Today I learned something new: Samurai were women.

For centuries, history has told us that samurai were men.

But

DNA from remains found on Japanese battlefields complicates the matter.

Because

Some of the warriors buried were likely women—fighters, not spectators.

Not all samurai were women. But a significant number were erased, which proves one thing: women not only survived history, they fought in history.

So why were they erased from history?
