This initiative will make travel and movement in Japan easier for Muslims.
This room called Prayer Space was created by the welfare and various equipment manufacturer OM Kiki Company. It was created by an employee of the company. He got the idea after seeing his friend having trouble finding a place to pray while traveling to Okayama with a Muslim friend from Malaysia.
The product has been on the market since last December.
This prayer room made of wood is 180 centimeters high and has a floor area of 150 centimeters square. Muslims are required to pray five times a day and purify their hands, feet, face with water before prayer. Keeping that in mind, a special mat that is water-resistant and easy to clean has been used on the floor of the room.
In addition, a Qibla indicator has been added to the ceiling, which can be rotated to determine the direction of Mecca.
A survey conducted on Muslims who have traveled to Japan was asked whether they value whether there is a place of worship at their travel destination or not. Of the 107 respondents, 72 percent of men and 79 percent of women answered 'yes'.
The inventor of the product said, "The availability of a place to pray is often very important when choosing a travel destination. I want people to be able to pray as easily as in their natural environment. This will make travel easier and local areas can also create a Muslim-friendly work environment."
