Come back

On February 12 at 8:10 am, the phone suddenly rang.

‘Hello, I’m Ayesha. Who are you?’

A cold voice answered from the other side, ‘After many days!’

The voice was familiar. Ayesha hung up the phone and ran to her room. She closed the door and took out an old wooden box from under the cupboard. A box from six years ago.

As soon as she opened the lock, an old letter, a wristwatch, and a diary came out. Everything about Riyadh. Riyadh was Ayesha’s first love. He suddenly disappeared six years ago. A case was filed, a search was conducted, but he was not found.

Ayesha opened the diary and flipped through the pages. Their memories were on each page. Suddenly, she saw a page that said, ‘February 12, 2019—If one day I disappear...6 years later, on this very day, the phone will ring. Don’t open the door. Then I will no longer be Riyadh.’

The phone rang again. That voice, ‘Ayshu, open the door, I’m here. Believe me.’

Aysha’s hands tremble. A shadow appears under the door. She slowly approaches the door, puts her ear to it. The sound of her breathing—heavy, like a machine. Tears come to her eyes. What if he’s really Riyad?

But that line in the diary...

She steps back. She puts everything in the box and locks it. Someone knocks on the door outside. Three times. Then silence.

Aysha knows that if she opens the door, the boundary between reality and the unknown will be broken.

The phone rings again. The voice whispers this time, ‘You didn’t believe me, that’s why I came back…in another form.’

A gust of cold air enters the room. The diary page opens on its own, ‘You’ll write the last one, Aysha….’

The light goes out.
